When I first arrived in Santo Domingo the italian local construction company’s owner, Mario Astori, warned me about the local say “People from Santo Domingo are divided in slow, very slow and perfectly still”. The day after I could experience what he meant during my visit to a bathroom accessories shop.
When construction company’s owner brought me to his friend Sam who sells terracotta sconces in a small village and I didn’t find what I was looking for, Sam told me to make a drawing on a piece of paper and he would manufacture a sample for free. One week after he got the job for 55 custom made white square sconces.
Old chairs were painted in white enamel
Paintings especially made for the villa. One is made with two rusty iron pieces sell at the local hardware shop. The other is made with flame tree long seeds I found in the garden.
